Charley Waters was born April 7, 1919 at home in Floyd County, the son of Frank and Mary Emma (Stiller) Waters. He attended the Rock Grove School. On June 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruth Bishop at the Christian Church in Nora Springs. Charley and Ruth were married for 13 years before their pride and joy of their life was born, Karen Sue.

Charley was a farmhand and worked for Glenn Million, Dr. Bascom and Larry Horstman of Nora Springs. Charley never received any degrees but had the knack to fix cars and loved to do carpentry. He was always ready and willing to help anybody out.

Charley was a lifelong member of the Nora Springs Christian Church serving in every capacity of the church along with filling the pulpit. He loved to play his violin or jew’s harp whenever anybody would visit him, but his greatest joy and love was his family. He enjoyed visits from Karen and her husband Greg and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to tell them stories of his younger days.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Ruth Waters at the Nora Springs Care Center; beloved daughter, Karen (Greg) Nettifee, Garner, Iowa and his beloved grandchildren, Eric Nettifee and fiancé Shaada Mennear, Garner, Iowa, Jeremy (Amber) Nettifee, Clear Lake, Iowa; beloved great grandsons, Riley Nettifee and Hunter Lamfers; sisters-in-laws, Lorie Waters, Esther (Harry) Owzerak; brothers-in-law, Carroll (Joyce) Bishop, and Jim Hibner along with a host of nephews, nieces and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Waters; brothers, Clayton, Eli, Junior; sister, Cora; niece, Shari Hibner and two infant great-nephews.

The Waters/Nettifee’s would like to thank all those who helped make Charley’s last year meaningful and comfortable. We cherish his memory together and look forward to a joyous heavenly reunion when we can say we are “finally home.” The family would like to say "thank you" to the Nora Springs Care Center for their excellent care, Mercy Hospital and Hospice of North Iowa.
