CHARLES CITY, IOWA - E. "Dee" Demeric Katcher, 91, of Charles City, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Dee Katcher will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Colwell United Church of Christ, Colwell, with Pastor Debra Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and at the church an hour prior to the service Saturday.

Elaine Demeric Katcher was born October 12, 1920, in Charles City, the daughter of Neal and Gladys (Waid) Hoisington. Dee grew up on the family farm and graduated from Colwell High School in 1938. On Jan. 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Elwyn Katcher in the Catholic Chapel at Charles City.

They lived south of Colwell, where they farmed more than 50 years together and raised their three children. She enjoyed attending as many of her kids' events as possible. Dee liked bowling, traveling, square dancing, putting together puzzles, playing cards, reading and flower gardening.

Later in life, Dee attended most meals that were offered at the senior center with her friends. She was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ, the Colwell Culture Club and the Floyd County Cowbelles. She also served as a 4-H leader and managed the food stand at the Floyd County Fair.

Living family members include three children: Keith (Jeri) Katcher of Gassville, Ark., Larry (Shirley) Katcher of Charles City, Nancy (David) Kuhn of Winterset; a brother, Gerald (Terry) Hoisington of Manassas, Va.; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Elwyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Colwell United Church of Christ, 1403 Colwell Ave., Colwell, IA 50620, or the Colwell Fire Department, 3213 First St., Colwell, IA 50620.
