Florence Anna was born to William and Frances Grube in Elma, Iowa. She was one of five children. She graduated with the class of 1934 from Immaculate Catholic School.

After graduation she moved to the Chicago area and was employed as a nanny for five years. During the war she was employed in a factory, manufacturing gas masks for the Army. During that time she met and fell in love with her future husband. They met at dances at the USO Club, and shortly before he was sent overseas to serve his country in the Army she was united in marriage to Clifford Roberts on May 30, 1942, in Chicago.

While he was overseas she worked for Bell Telephone Company as an operator. Following Cliff's return in 1945 they remained in Chicago, moving back to Charles City in 1946.

During their early years she remained at home to raise her five children and then worked for Ray's Pizza Factory. All during her life she loved crafting, especially ceramics. She also planted her flower and vegetable gardens and was known for her bread pudding and pumpkin bars. On Friday nights she and Cliff were found spending time playing cards on a rotating schedule at different friends' homes.

The family loved to camp, go to the VFW for dances, visit upper Michigan to visit relatives and spend time in the winter in Texas near their daughter.

Grannie did lots of volunteer work, including helping with bingo at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Home, helping with funeral dinners at IC Church, was a member of St. Francis Circle which was started by her mother and participated with the Fountain of Youth Craft workers at the Senior Center. In her spare time she read western novels and played with her favorite Yorkshire dog, B.B.

Those surviving Florence include her three children, Diane Garrett, Charles City; Duane and wife Jeannie Roberts, Garner; and Debra and husband Frank Fouts, Clovis, N.M.; and 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
