Anna B. Osterman, 90, of the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, died Wednesday, December 7, 1994, at the nursing home, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, December 10, 1994, at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home in Charles City, with Rev. D. Niezwaag officiating. Burial was in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

Mrs. Osterman, the former Anna Brunhilda Hopkes, was born on January 1, 1904, in rural Parkersburg, Butler county, Iowa, the daughter of Herman S. and Bena G. (Reints) Hopkes. She was baptized at home, as she was a small infant, and not expected to live. She grew up, however, and attended schools in Fremont Township in Butler county. She was confirmed at the Pleasant Valley Church, rural Clarksville.

On February 18, 1930, in New Hampton, Iowa, she married Dale Henry Osterman. The couple made their home on a rural Nashua farm before moving to a house on 9th Street in Charles City. When their home was destroyed in the tornado of May, 1968, they moved to a home on Oliver Street. Mr. Osterman died on February 2, 1972, in Charles City. Mrs. Osterman continued to live in Charles City, finally moving to the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home.

She was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Circle of that church.

Living family members include a sister and her husband, Elsie and Roy Hurst of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Delores Hopkes of Gainsville, Florida, and Gloria Hopkes of Scottsdale, Arizona. Among her living nieces and nephews is Mrs. Bruce (Shirley) Pennington of rural Rudd. The others are out of state.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruno and George Hopkes.
