Alice Elizabeth (Penney) Bascombe February 12, 1856 April 9, 1934



Clear Lake, April 12 Mrs. A. E. Peterson, North Second Street, returned Wednesday night from Charles City where she attended the funeral of her mother, Mrs. Alice Bascombe, who died in her home at Des Moines Monday. Although she had been in poor health for several years she was seriously ill only two days.

Mrs. Bascombe has visited several summers with her daughter here. She was born in Waymouth, England, coming to this country with her parents at the age of four and settling at Stacyville, Mitchell Co., Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Drury of Marshalltown, daughter and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Peterson, also attended the services at Charles City.

Alice Elizabeth Penney was born February 12, 1856, the daughter of Arthur William Penney and Harriet (Wallis) Penney. She died April 9, 1934. Alice married Thomas B Bascombe, who was born June 18, 1847 in England and died March 23, 1929.

They had the following children:

(a) Ernest Arlington Bascomb born September 6, 1874 in Mitchell Co., Iowa..he died May 15, 1943 and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell Co. (note* Ernest dropped the e on the end of his surname)

(b) Leslie Lee Bascombe born December 9, 1877 in Mitchell Co., Iowa; died March 29, 1938 in Hennepin Co., Minnesota; buried Crystal Lake Cemetery, Hennepin co.

(c) Ethel Bascombe born January 22, 1880 in Mitchell Co., Iowa; died March 8, 1968 in Mason City. She married Arthur E Peterson.

(d) Leila Bascombe born July 26, 1884 in Mitchell Co., Iowa; died July 22, 1959 in Des Moines. Married ? White

e) Alice Bascombe born November 10, 1889 in Mitchell Co, Married George White
