Jerry Dale Carter, 56, of Stewartville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, November 12, 2011, after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Jerry was surrounded by his loving family at home at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Novrmber 17, at United Methodist Church in Stewartville, with Rev. Marcus Kendall officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Wayne Township Cemetery in rural McIntire, Iowa.

Jerry Dale Carter was born on December 2, 1954, to Dale and Lorraine Carter in Charles City, Iowa. He lived in Colwell, Iowa, until his family moved to Red Wing, where he graduated from Red Wing High School in 1973. In 1983 he married Pamela Clement and they recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with two sons, Lucas and Shane.

Jerry was an active member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, where he was a current trustee and a previous elder. He placed great value in mentoring and teaching the youth. He taught Sunday School, youth group, and helped with Vacation Bible School faithfully for many years. In the past he was very involved with the wrestling, football and baseball booster clubs at the Stewartville schools.

He was employed with Tuohy Furniture Corporation in Chatfield, and worked there as a product engineer for 26 years. Pam has been employed for 28 years at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, currently in Office Support Services.

Jerry looked forward to summer and being outdoors, vacationing with his family, riding his motorcycle, enjoying concerts and spending time with his family and friends. Jerry loved his family and friends and spent as much time as he could with them.

He is survived by his wife, Pam, and two sons, Lucas and Shane, of Stewartville; his parents, Dale and Lorraine Carter of McIntire, Iowa; his sister, Connie (Tom) Mariette of Prescott, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh and Helen Carter; his maternal grandparents, Jacob DeVries and Louise DeVries; and step-grandmother, Bess DeVries.

We rejoice and take comfort in the fact that he is forever at home and with our Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he faithfully served. Jerry changed the lives of many people with his genuine smile, courage, firm beliefs and sense of humor to the end.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning.

Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
