He received his education in the Marble Rock Public Schools, graduating in 1953. He was united in marriage to Marjorie F. Andrews on June 10, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene.
Duane was engaged in construction work and worked for the Marble Rock Co-op Elevator. He later did carpentry work with Lawrence F. Christie in the Marble Rock area.
His last major construction project was the building of their new home, on their farm in 1979.
Duane farmed in the Marble Rock area with his brothers for many years and later on his own.
He took great pride in his farming operation and was a good steward of the land. When he wasn’t farming he enjoyed going to town for coffee with his friends at the “Rock” or cruising around town and the countryside checking things out. When he was home, he enjoyed watching sports on television. He was an avid Hawkeye and Vikings fan.
“Goldie,” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, had the ability to make friends wherever he went. He was a great one to tease and to be teased and always enjoyed a good joke.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Marble Rock and the Round Grove Golf and Country Club in Greene.
