CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Vernon "Vern" Kluwe, 85, of Charles City, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Vern Kluwe will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Vernon Duane Kluwe was born July 22, 1926, at Calmar, the son of Benjamin and Agnes (Phillips) Kluwe. He graduated from Charles City High School. On June 13, 1964, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Sobolik. Vern worked for many years at Birum-Olson Motor Company in Mason City. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Other memberships included the New Hampton and Greene Country Clubs and a lifetime membership at the Moose Lodge. Vern enjoyed golfing, gardening, selling cars and for 20 years fishing in Canada.

Living family members include his wife, Suzanne "Sue" Kluwe of Charles City; and a daughter Pam (Duane) Folz of Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Deloris Godowski and Audrey Cenek; and two brothers, Benjamin Kluwe, Jr. and Robert Kluwe.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
