Ernest R. Vandeventer, 82, of 308 19th Avenue, died shortly after midnight today, October 5, 1970, at the Floyd County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.

Mr. Vandeventer was a retired farmer and during World War II and for a time after was employed at the Oliver Corporation. He was a member of the Bethany Alliance Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Vandeventer will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Bethany Alliance Church. Rev. Maurice L. McClun will officiate. Burial will be in the West St. Charles Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Ernest Romanzo Vandeventer was born April 18, 1888 at Rochelle, Illinois, the son of Amasa Romanzo and Matilda Louise (Young) VanDeventer. He was married to Grace C. Naber on October 10, 1910 at Webster City, Iowa.

Surviving are his wife, Grace, five daughters and five sons. Mrs. Harold (Lula) Schmidt, Charles City, Mrs. John (Lillian) Greenfield, Kamrar, Iowa, Mrs. Harold (Leona) Starkey, Charles City, Mrs. Ivan (Lavernus) Friend, Beloit, Wisconsin, Mrs. Cecil (Lavera) Thomas, Charles City, Lloyd of Wichita, Kansas, Elroy of Louisville, Kentucky, Edward and Raymond, of Charles City and Howard of Eldorado, Kansas, There are 31 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother Jacob VanDeventer of Chico, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother, an infant son & infant daughter.
