Mrs. Harold (Leona) Starkey, 59, 715 19th Ave., died Thursday evening at the Chautauqua Guest Home on Chautauqua Ave. Mrs. Starkey had been afflicted with multiple sclerosis for over thirty years.
Funeral services for Leona Starkey will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral home. Rev. Maurice McClun pastor of the Bethany Alliance Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Saturday.
Leona Rose Starkey was born August 12, 1915, at Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest Romanzo and Grace C. (Naber) Vandeventer. As a young girl her family moved to the Charles City area where she received her education. On May 29, 1934, She married Harold Starkey in Charles City.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, a son James, Charles City; five brothers, Lloyd Vandeventer of Wichita, Kansas, Elroy Vandeventer of Louisville, Kentucky, Edward Vandeventer and Raymond Vandeventer, both of Charles City, and Howard Vandeventer of Indianapolis, Ind., and three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Lula) Schmidt and Mrs. Cecil (Lavera) Thomas both of Charles City and Mrs. Ivan (Lavernus) Friend, Muscada, Wisc. There are nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Dale both in 1973, and two granddaughters, Sherry in 1974 and Roxanne and one sister, Lillian Greenfield. The Hauser Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
