CHARLES CITY - Blanche Elliott, 92, of 3043 170th Street, Charles City, died Sunday (Dec. 29, 2002) at Colonial Manor at Elma.

A funeral Mass for Blanche Elliott will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Monsignor Stanley Hayek, celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, with St. Michael's Circle reciting the rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Blanche Pauline Rouse Elliott was born June 26, 1910, at Elma, the daughter of William and Pauline (Schrieber) Rouse. She graduated from the Colwell High School and from the University of Northern Iowa.

On June 1, 1933, she was united in marriage to Laurence Elliott. Blanche taught in country schools and then at Nashua for five years, and at Evansdale until her retirement in 1972.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Michael's Circle, Colwell Betterment Club, Colwell Culture Club, named the Outstanding Senior Citizen by North Iowa Area Community College, served on the Elderbridge State Board, received the Governor's Volunteer Award, ran the Little Red Schoolhouse at the Chautauqua Guest Homes, and helped start the Senior Citizens Meals at Colwell.

Blanche enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, bowling, traveling, playing cards, attending sporting events, and spending time with her family.

Living family members include a daughter, Laurna Schlader (Gene) of Charles City; three sons, Melberne Elliott (Darlene) of Storm Lake, Kenneth Elliott (Arlene) and Gary Elliott (Mary) both of Charles City; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a special first cousin, Bill Elliott (Patty) of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; four brothers, Jim Rouse of Shell Rock, Fred Rouse (Carolyn) of San Francisco, Calif., Charles Rouse (Gen) of Fremont, Caalif., and Francis Rouse (Elaine) of Palto Alto, Calif.; a half brother, Ron Huffman (Jean) of Ventura; and a sister-in-law, Maxine Rouse, of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2001; a granddaughter, Sandra Kay Elliott; and three brothers, Leo, Dan and Joe Rouse.
