FERLIN J. JENSEN

GREENE, IOWA - Ferlin J. Jensen, 41, of 113 E. South St., Greene, died Wednesday (Dec. 25, 2002) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Monsignor Walter Brunkan of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 North First, Greene, and will continue one hour before services at the church.

Ferlin John Jensen was born Aug. 19, 1961, at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, a son of Clarence James and MaryAnn Susan (Brinkman) Jensen, and died Wednesday (Dec. 25, 2002) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He was baptized during August of 1961 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar, and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. He graduated from the Greene Community School in 1979.

He was united in marriage to Jill Ellen Heller on Jan. 14, 1984, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Ferlin's life was focused around the family farm and the great outdoors. If it didn't have a motor or wheels he was not much interested. He restored and showed a 1957 Chevy Nomad which earned him many trophies.

Ferlin had a keen ability to work on anything mechanical. He did not need to read the manual; he would figure it out himself. He took good care of the equipment on the farm and always cleaned it when he was done using it.

He was an avid deer hunter and one who enjoyed going mushroom hunting or just taking a walk out in the woods. He enjoyed motorcycling and snowmobiling. He groomed the trails for the snowmobiles and enjoyed snowmobiling with his kids.

Ferlin was vice president of the Snowmobile Club and a member of Pheasants Forever.

Ferlin loved and was loved by his family. He was a great father and one who had patience with the little kids. Nothing seemed to upset him. Ferlin was the peacemaker, and a Rock of Gibraltar. He was always willing to help out whenever he could.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Jill, and two children, Amanda, age 12, and Shane, age 6; his parents, Clarence and MaryAnn Jensen of Greene; three sisters and their spouses, Aliene and Tim Thunell of Indianapolis, Debra and Adam Akers of Hampton and Ranae and John Krull of Oregon, Wis.; two brothers and their spouses, Faron and Michelle Jensen and Dean and Shelly Jensen, all of Greene; 20 nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bob and Verla Heller of Charles City; two brothers-in-law, Jim Heller of Charles City and Jeff and Mary Heller of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Jean and Wayne King of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Ferlin Jensen Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Reid's Funeral Chapel, (641) 823-4457.
