CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Jim Levenhagen, 72, a resident of 1303 Cleveland Ave., died Saturday (Dec. 21, 2002) at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Rockwell Cemetery. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City. A rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.
James Otto Levenhagen was born May 11, 1930, at Rockwell, the son of Otto and Johanna (Lubben) Levenhagen. He received his education at the Rockwell school. Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On September 4, 1981, he was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" Byrne at Charles City. Jim worked for 39 years at White Farm Equipment Company and then at the Shaw Avenue Dump until 2001 when he quit working because of his health.
He was a member of the Lutheran church and a past member of the V.F.W. Jim thoroughly enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, college basketball and working in his garden.
Living family members include his wife, Pat, of Charles City; a daughter, Becky Kirchgatter (Steve) of Nora Springs; a stepdaughter, Kathy Hayden of McCook, Nebraska; a grandson, Kyle Kirchgatter; step-grandchildren, Jesse and Randi Hayden; a brother, John Levenhagen (Margaret) of Rockwell; a sister, Lucille Levenhagen of Rockwell; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Levenhagen of Mason City.
His parents, a stepson, Jimmie Biggins, and a brother, Al Levenhagen, preceded him in death.
