BLAINE CROWELL
ROCKFORD - Blaine Crowell, 88, of 110 Fourth N.W., died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. Officiating will be the Rev. Patricia Shaw. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main, Rockford, and one hour before the service at the church.
Blaine was born on July 9, 1913, in Ulster Township, one of three children, to Charles and Myna Fern (Strong) Crowell. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1931.
On June 16, 1934, he was united in marriage to Thelma Dahlen in Charles City. To this union was born one daughter. They moved to Saginaw, Mich., where he opened a shop following his attendence at Butler Trade School in Detroit. They returned to Rockford in 1947 where he opened and operated Crowell Auto Body Shop. Twenty-seven years later he retired.
Blaine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served his city by being on the city council and the Rockford Light Plant board. He was also a charter member of the Rockford Golf and Country Club where he spent many hours of work helping create the course with other members. Along with golf, he enjoyed fishing in Canada and Northern Minnesota. He also enjoyed following college basketball and the Minnesota Vikings. Blaine was a former member of the Rockford Lions Club and the Charles City Elks Lodge.
Those thankful in sharing Blaine's life include his wife of 68 years, Thelma, of Rockford; his daughter, Sheila, and her husband , Rolf Riebe, and their two children, Heidi Joe and Ryan Riebe, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Gladys Jacobs and Hazel Phillips.
The family of Blaine Crowell would like to acknowledge the kind expressions of sympathy and assistance offered them during Blaine's illness and at the time of his death.
