NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Velma H. Dodd, 84, of Nora Springs, died Sunday (July 7,2002) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen, of St. Luke Lutheran Church, officiating. Cremation will follow the services, with interment at Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral chapel.

The family wishes memorials to be made to Velma Dodd in her memory.

Velma H. Bachman was born on December 11, 1917, on a farm west of Hansell, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle and Elva (Hackley) Bachman.

She married Virgil W. Dodd on Dec. 24, 1935, at the home of Virgil's parents north of Hansell. They farmed north of Hansell until 1941, when they moved to a farm northwest of Nora Springs. They farmed there until 1959 when they moved to a farm southwest of Cresco. In 1970 they moved to a home at 416 North Iowa in Nora Springs.

Both Velma and Virgil worked for the Nora Springs school until their retirement in the early 1980s.

Velma loved life and being around people. Family and friends were the most important part of her life, especially her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Larry Cross, of Nora Springs; and five sons, Bill and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mason City, Larry and his wife, Mary, of Nora Springs; Jerry of Romeoville, Illinois, Dennis and his wife, June, of Clear Lake, and David of Mason City; and daughter-in-law, Marlys Dodd, of Stewartville, Minn. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren and their families, Deb Demaris, of Manly; Bill Dodd of Crest View, Fla.; Darold Dodd, of Klemme; Kevin Dodd, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; Dawn Prestholt, of Mason City; Mark Dodd, of Mason City; Mindy Vose, of Devils Lake, N.D.; Vicky Dodd, of Rockford; Alyssa Dodd, of Nora Springs; Jamason Dodd, of Nora Springs; Andrew Dodd of Nora Springs; Wendy Malloy of Bolingbrook, Illinois; Christy Dodd of Romeoville, Illinois; Amy Smith of Clarks Grove, Minn.; Mike Dodd, of Liberty, Missouri; Tim Dodd of Rock Falls; Troy Dodd of Nora Springs; Randy Dodd of Rock Falls; Jody Fink of Nora Springs; Teresa Howe of Rockford; Pam Samuels of Hollywood, Fla.; Kari Potts,of Charlotte, N.C.; Brenda Svestka, of Decorah; Beth Dodd, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Nathaniel Dodd, of Stewartville, Minn.; and Matt Dodd of St. Croix Falls, Wis., as well as 51 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil W. Dodd; a son, Delbert C. Dodd; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Dodd; her parents, Lyle and Elva Bachman; a sister, Lois Corning; and a brother, Delbert C. Bachman.
