MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - Vincent J. Staudt, 55, of 1951 340th St., rural Marble Rock, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City, following an extended illness of cancer.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, rural Marble Rock, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Roseville.

Friends may call from 11 to 9 a.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday and there will be a Parish Scriptural Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 9 until 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vincent Joseph Staudt was born April 22, 1942, on the family farm in rural Marble Rock, the son of Clement Joseph and Susan Josephine (Zeien) Staudt. He attended grade school at St. Mary's in Roseville. He then went to school in Marble Rock, and graduated from the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community High School in Rockford in 1960.

On February 1, 1964, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, he was united in marriage to Linda Jean Crowell. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Marble Rock where they raised their four daughters. Vince was blessed that he could express his love of the land in his chosen profession of farming. For several years on the farm, Vince enjoyed the association of being a Golden Harvest Seed dealer. Vince was a tireless and cheerful volunteer many ways to his community and church. He was a member of the Lions Club of Marble Rock, where he was scheduled to be president this coming year. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Roseville. He had served on the parish council and, at one time, served as president of the council. He often volunteered to sing in the choir at St. Mary's, and frequently served as an usher.

Living family members include his wife, Linda of rural Marble Rock; four daughters, Julie Merfeld and her husband, Pat, of Dike; Angie Johnson and her husband, Scott, of Rockford; Michelle Kutschat and her husband, Jim, of Iowa Falls, and Jennifer Staudt, at home in rural Marble Rock; two brothers and their wives, Cletus and Sue Staudt, and Dennis and Patty Staudt, all of Marble Rock; a sister, Sister Marjorie Staudt, O.S.F. of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Diann, Tony and Emily Merfeld of Dike, Derek, Travis and Logan Johnson of Rockford and Jessica Kutschat of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan, who died May 13, 1988, in Charles City; his father, Clement, who died Dec. 14, 1992, in Charles City, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Kutschat.
