Funeral Rites Held
For Claire HeffronFuneral services were held Saturday in Grossmann's Funeral home at Charles City for Claire Heffron, 23, who drowned in the Iowa River at Iowa City Thursday.
He is the brother of Francis Heffron, deputy sheriff of Mitchell county.
The accident occurred when the deceased was wading towards shore and stepped into a deep spot after finishing the day's work on the bridge he was painting. The body was recovered about 15 feet from the river bank.
He was born in Niles township Floyd county, March 20, 1931 to Warren and Veda (Basset) Heffron. He married Beverly Eikenberry at Charles City Aug. 10, 1952.
The Rev. H. F. Mercer officiated at the cemetery and burial was in the Riverside cemetery.
Besides his wife and brother, Francis, he is survived by another brother, Dean of Osage, his eight-month-old daughter, Susan Fay and his parents of Charles City.
