NORA SPRINGS - Vernon A. Peter, 79, died Sunday (Oct. 22, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.
In keeping with his wishes his body was cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Scheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.
Vernon was born July 6, 1921, on the family farm in Floyd County, the son of Ferd and Martha (Schutz) Peter. Vernon attended Nora Springs High School and began working on the family farm.
He married Wanda Brown on Aug. 23, 1946, at the Presbyterian church parsonage in Rudd.
Following the sale of the farm, Vernon became a self-employed truck driver until he retired because of poor health.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper and loved the great outdoors.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Nora Springs; two daughters, Kristie Peter and Patti Peter, both of Nora Springs; a niece, Marilyn Peter Hamand of Nora Springs; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Lester Peter; and a sister, Blanche Lichtsinn.
