Carl August Swedberg, 90, Charles City, died Wednesday, November 18.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs with Rev. Evan Routh officiating, assisted by Rev. Jack Wallace, Senior Pastor of the Charles City Methodist Church.

Rev. and Mrs. James Dale, Rudd, were soloists. Pallbearers were Roy Neil, Francis Sherman, Donald Ryner, Wendell and Truman Squier and John Jerrell. Burial was in the Nora Springs Park Cemetery with the Sheckler Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Swedberg was born May 3, 1880 at Boone, Iowa, the eldest son of Andrew and Mathilda Alf Swedberg. At the age of two he moved with his parents to Hamilton County Nebraska. He attended business college in Fremont, Nebraska. He was married to Esther S. Carlson of Madrid, Iowa, January 20, 1940. They resided in Nebraska until 1910 when they moved to Iowa, farming near Northwood and Carpenter before moving to Nora Springs in 1919 where they farmed east of town. In 1965 he moved to Charles City where he resided until his death.

Mr. Swedberg served on school boards in Nebraska and Iowa. At Carpenter he was secretary of the board when the district was consolidated and a new school built. While living there, he also served as mayor of the town.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Nora Springs from 1910 until 1955 when he transferred to the First Methodist church in Charles City. He was a member of the building committee when the present Nora Springs church was built, and he served on the official board for over thirty years.

He was assessor for Rock Grove Township and later for the Town of Nora Spring, served as Town of Nora Springs, for many years, and also was on the election board until leaving Nora Springs.

He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, one grandchild, four brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by his wife Lucretia, two daughters, Mrs. D. S. (Irene) Kupker, Nora Springs, Mrs. J.C. (Helen) Hildebrand, Belmont, Massachusaetts, and a son Glen Swedberg, Nora Springs, one brother, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
