Crumm, 76, who died at 7:45 Wednesday morning, November 14 at his home in Nora Springs. Mr. Crum's death was caused by a heart attack. He had been afflicted with heart trouble for many years and had been in failing

The Rev. C. Dana Boggie, pasor of the Methodist church, will officiate at the services; and acting as pall bearers will be John Keith, Lloyd Gashel, Perley Broadwell, W. C. Batdorf, C. C. Stoner and James Cutler. Mrs. Batdorf and Mrs. Stoner will have charge of the floral arrangements. Interment will be in the Rudd cemetery, at the side of his wife.

He was born at Elk Point, South Dakota, on May 26, 1859, the eldest of a family of two girls and two boys, and the son of William and Drusilla Logan Crum. The family moved to Nora Springs in 1877, and Mr. Crum had been a resident here for about the past -- years.

A "History of Floyd County, Iowa," which was published in 1917, has this to say regarding Martin Crum. "Martin P. Crum has made his own way since he was 10 years old. Having thus had to start out to earn his own living at so tender an age, he had little opportunity to attend school.

But while this early experience was severe it proved of great value in developing in him strong traits of character, such as courage, tenacity and self-reliance, which led to success later in life. He hired out as a farm hand, mostly, until his marriage, after which he began farming for himself. He served about five years as road superintendent of his township and county.

On February 1, 1915, he was appointed superintendent of the county farm, which is located near the village of Floyd in Floyd township, and he has since discharged the duties of this important position in a manner that has reflected much credit upon his ability, fidelity and honesty and to the entire satisfaction of all concered.

He has introduced an excellent system in the management of the same and the buildings are kept in a sanitary and comfortable condition at all seasons and the land has been brought up to a high state of improvement and cultivation. He is regarded as one of the best superintendents the county farm has ever had."

He was married to Luna Elva Dean on January 11, 1892. Four daughters and one son were born to the couple. One daughter died in infancy, and another, Mamie, died in 1918 at the age of 21.

Surviving are two daughters and one son: Mrs. Harry E. (Lelia) Poole of Bothel, Washington, Dale Crum of Nora Springs and Mrs Herman (Sadie) Bohnsack, also of Nora Springs. There is also one brother, George Crum of Nora Springs; two grandaughters and four grandsons, two of whom are in the service, both on foreign duty, Harold Bishop, BM 2/c and Dorlin D. Crum F 2/c.

Mrs. Crum died on February 7, 1937, and Mr. Crum retired from farming at that time and had been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Woodmen.
