CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Irene Barbara May Springer, 91, died Saturday (May 15, 1999) at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Neizwaag officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

IRENE BARBARA MAY SPRINGER

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Irene Barbara May (Mrs. Glenn) Springer, 91, of New Hampton Care Center, New Hampton, and formerly of 102 Cedar Terrace, Charles City, died Saturday (May 15, 1999) at St. Joseph's Community Hospital, New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag and the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service today at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church.

Irene was born on August 23, 1907 in Charles City; one of five children to Miller and Minnie "Koebrick" Ellis. She attended school in Charles City.

On April 8, 1925 at St. John's Lutheran Church parsonage, she was united in marriage to Glenn O. Springer. To this union were born four children. She was employed in cleaning homes in the Charles City area until joining the housekeeping staff at Riverside Chautauqua Home in 1964. She remained on staff until retiring in 1979.

Irene was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the ALCW, Dorcas Circle. In her spare time she enjoyed taking fishing trips to Northern Minnesota, reading her Bible, sewing dresses and scrubbies for her children and grandchildren, walking seven miles per day and tending her flower garden. She also loved visiting with her grandchildren and baking cookies for them.

Those thanking for sharing in Irene's long and fruitful life include her daughter, Joan Smith, of New Hampton; her son, Glen Charles and his wife, Nancy Springer, of Cedar Falls; one sister, Annie Herzog, of Mason City; 12 grandchildren, Carolyn Schwickerath, Connie Gibbs, Sheryl Ostlund, Marjorie Loes, Dennis Tolliver, Denise Cline, Linda Finnegan, Terry Ball, Douglas Smith, Peggy Testroet, Robin Hoy and Wedi Huck, along with her 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Those passing before Irene include her husband, Glenn on Aug 4, 1964; two daughters, Norma Kobliska and Betty Rath; one grandson, David Rath; one sister, Dorothy Obermeier; and two brothers, Melvin and Charlie Ellis.
