Local Nursing HomeMrs. James Rader, 86, died about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at the Norby nursing home where she had been a patient for a little over a year, having entered the home Aug. 4, 1952. In addition to other infirmities attendant upon her advanced age, Mrs. Rader was blind. Her sight had been failing for the past 15 years and she had been totally blind for several years.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon September 5, at the Sheckler funeral home, with the Rev. Gordon Loucks of Mason City in charge. Interment was in Rock Grove cemetery, south of Nora Springs.
The casket was borne by six nephews of the deceased: Archie Sellon and Wayne Sellon of Mason City; Claude Sellon and Lee Sellon of Randolph, Nebr.; Earl and Harold Sellon of Nora Springs. Mrs Robert Greene was the vocalist, with Mrs. K. S. Shanks as accompanist.
Mrs. Rader, (nee) Flora Sellon, was born Nov. 29, 1866, in Black Hawk county, near Cedar Falls, the second of six children of William and Theresa Betsie Barber Sellon. She came to Cerro Gordo county in 1887.
She was married to James F. Rader in 1890 and they lived on the home farm, southwest of Nora Springs, moving to Nora Springs in 1915. Mr. Rader died May 15, 1946.
The couple had four children: Mrs. Earl (Maude)Hayden of San Diego, Calif.; Darrell Alfred and Lyle Francis Rader, and Mrs. Claire (Helen) Baker. Of those four only Mrs. Hayden survives. There are also two surviving brothers, C. E. Sellon of Nora Springs and W. W. Sellon of Randolph, Nebr.
Mrs Rader joined the Rebekah lodge in Nora Springs in 1915 and had been a member ever since. The local lodge members attended the rites in a body.
