At Local Nursing Home

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 10, for Earl Milton Spotts, 70, who died about 1:30 a.m., Saturday Nov. 7, at the Norby nursing home, where he had been a patient since April 1. He had been in ill health since 1919.

The Sheckler funeral home had charge of the rites, which were conducted by the Rev. J. Ellis Webb, pastor of the local Methodist church. Interment was in Park cemetery.

Born October 3, 1883, on a farm just west of Nora Springs, he was the son of A. L. and Emma Spotts, both of whom preceded him in death.

He farmed with his father until 1919, when he became ill, and never regained his health. His hobby of making figurines of cobs, nuts and grapefruit peels provided him with an interest and were enjoyed by callers at the Spotts home. His Bible was his daily companion, with the radio keeping him in touch with the world.

According to a biography written by his family, "He was a member of the Methodist church and for years he enjoyed the choir as they practiced anthems in his home each Sunday morning. Pastors of the Methodist church and their families were a comfort and real next door neighbors to him."

His sister, Olive, had taken care of him for many years until his admittance to the nursing home last spring. He is survived by two sisters, Miss Olive Spotts, of Nora Springs and Mrs. J. F. (Jean) Sargent of Gettysburg, S. Dak.; and two brothers, Lynn Spotts and Paul Spotts, both of Nora Springs.
