Car Crash
Is Fatal To
Martin Field

Manslaughter Charge
Is Filed Against
Nibbe of Amboy, Minn.

An auto crash which occured about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, October 12, on Highway 9, two miles east of Manly, proved fatal to Martin O. Field, 67, of Nora Springs, prominent farmer in the Rock Creek community north of here. Mr. Field died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday in a Mason City hospital.

William Nibbe, 38, of Amboy, Minn., was charged with manslaughter Monday as a result of the accident. Sheriff A. J. Conner of Northwood, who investigated the crash, said there were indications that Nibbe's car was over the center line of the highway when the two cars collided head on. The officer said there were indications that Nibbe had been drinking and a blood test was made.

Mrs. and Mrs. Field were going west, having been on their way to a church convention at Jackson, Minn. Nibbe's car was going east, the left fronts of both vehicles colliding.

Field's forehead was severely lacerated. Reports from the hospital stated that he suffered a concussion. His wife was also taken to the hospital with a fractured left leg, cuts and bruises. She was reported in fair condition early this week.

Nibbe was also hospitalized with cuts and bruises. He was released from the hospital Monday, at which time the manslaughter charge was filed.

Mr. Field is survived by his wife, the former Emily Bistol; one son, Irving Field of Nora Springs; a daughter, Margaret Ann, who is an instructor in the Forest City school; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Peter, Carl and Oscar Field.
