Prominent Resident
For Past 47 Years Dies
In Mason City Hospital

Last rites for Mrs. C. E. Garman, 71, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, September 27, in the Methodist church in Nora Springs. The pastor, the Rev. J. Ellis Webb, conducted the services. He was assisted by the Rev. Amedee Fredette, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran church. Interment was in Rock Grove cemetery.

Mrs.Kenneth Shanks was the organist at the rites; the floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. J. W. Kennedy and Mrs. Roy Baker; and the casket was borne by W. T. Hanna, T.B. O'Brien, J.W. Kennedy, R. R. Moos, C. H. Boeck and C. E. Tatum.

Died September 24

Mrs. Garman died Wednesday afternoon, September 24, [1952] in the Mercy hospital in Mason City, having been admitted there as a patient only the preceding afternoon. She had been in failing health for a number of years.

Mary Blanche Sheckler was born in Putneyville, Pennsylvania, on April 26, 1881, to T.H. and Jane Pennfield Sheckler. Her father was a minister of the Methodist church. In the fall of 1885, she moved with her parents into the midwest, where she spent the rest of her life. She was married to Charles Edgar Garman on April 26, 1905. She spent the last 47 years of her life in Nora Springs.

As long as her health permitted, Mrs. Garman led a very active life. She was interested in all phases of community life. For a great many years she was a member of the Crescent club. She gave generously of her energies and means to the Methodist church, of which she was a member. When the present church building ws erected to replace one destroyed by fire, Mrs. Garman was a moving spirit in accomplishing the task, being secretary of the building commitee.

Preceding her in death were her husband; one son, Charles Edgar Garman, Jr.; and two brothers, one having died in infancy. The survivors include one son, Harry J. Garman of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Betty) Ashely of Fort Knox, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Harry J. Garman, Jr.; and Charles Edgar Garman III.; one sister, Mrs.Belle Seeber of Osage; a brother, F. R. Sheckler of Nora Springs and a number of nieces and nephews.
