Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon September 15, in the Sheckler funeral home and interment was in Rock Grove Cemetery, south of Nora Springs. The Rev. W. F. Ellerbeck, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church, officiated at the rites. Casket bearers were R. W. Daily, L. G. Andersen, Elmer Apel, H. J. Schuver, A. A. Volkman and W. W. Chestnut.

Born at Marshalltown

Mr. Clifford was born on January 8, 1877, at Marshalltown, Iowa, one of six children of John and Gertrude Barden Clifford. When he was six years old he moved with his parents, brothers and sisters to Nora Springs, Iowa, where he lived until his death.

He was united in marriage to Etta L. Drake at Dickens on February 19, 1901. The couple had no children. Mrs. Clifford died May 9, 1947.

Mr. Clifford was the first rural mail carrier out of Nora Springs. He resigned that position and moved into the country, living on different farms in the Rock Grove area for about 30 years.
In the spring of 1933, the Cliffords moved to Nora Springs, and he dealt in real estate and insurance.

His nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clifford, had lived with him since March 1, 1949, taking care of him during his declining years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by one brother, Edward Clifford of Nora Springs; one half-brother, Elmer Crawford, also of Nora Springs; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
