RITES FRIDAY IN
FUNERAL HOME

Former Resident Here
Dies At 39 After Only
Single Days's Illness

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Sheckler funeral home for Kenneth Eugene Thompson, 39, who died in the Veterans' Hospital at Iowa City early Wednesday morning April 8, 1953. He had been taken ill suddenly on Tuesday April 7, at the home of his brother, Floyd, in Waterloo, and rushed to the hospital where his death occurred a short time later.

A Methodist minister from Waterloo accompanied the cortege to Nora Springs, and officiated at the rites here. Burial was in Park cemetery, beside his parents.

Mr. Thompson was born on September 5, 1913 at Manilla, Iowa. In 1920 he moved with his parents to Thayer, Iowa, where he completed his elementary schooling.

In 1928, the Thompsons moved to the Nora Springs vicinity, where Kenneth was graduated from high school in 1932. During his high school days he was active in baseball and basketball, later playing with amateur teams in the area.

He united with the Methodist church at an early age, and was a member of the Nora Springs Methodist church for several years. He farmed with his father and brothers until he enlisted in the Navy in 1941. After his discharge, he was again engaged in farming in the Nora Springs vicinity, and later around Manilia. Since last fall, he had been employed by the Milwaukee railroad.

Preceding him in death were his father, Hugh S. Thompson, in 1938, and his mother, Dora L. Thompson, in 1944. Survivors are two brothers, Floyd Thompson of Waterloo and Warren Thompson of Belmond; one sister, Mrs. Arnold (Harriett) Eng; also three nieces and one nephew.
