Joseph B. Ryner, 67
Rudd, Killed In Car Crash
Near Nora Springs

Funeral Services Will
Be Held Thursday In
Rudd Methodist Church

A car crash three miles east of Nora Springs at the intersection of highways 18 and 147 about 4:30 Sunday evening, was fatal the following morning at a Mason City hospital to Joseph B. Ryner, 67, retired Rudd farmer.

Mason City highway patrolmen said the Ryner car, headed east, pulled off to the right, apparently to take the Rockford road, and then made a left turn instead, colliding with another eastbound car, driven by Don Trunnell of Cedar Falls.

Patrolmen said Ryner apparently was blinded by the sun and failed to see the Trunnell auto approaching from the rear. The Trunnell car struck the Ryner car in the rear, throwing it across the road.

Mr. Ryner died at the Mercy hospital at 4 a.m. Monday, August 17, [1953]. His wife, 65, who suffered bruises and a broken toe, was released from the hospital Monday. Mr. Trunnell and his wife suffered bruises and were treated at the hospital.

Mrs. Trunnel was released Sunday evening.
