Funeral services for Justus E. Schmidt, 50, of Rudd, who died on September 5, were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, September 7, at the Eden Presbyterian cemetery.

Justus Edward Schmidt was born March 6, 1902, near Rudd. He was the second son of Adam and Margaret (Brandau) Schmidt. At the age of nine he moved with his parents to a farm northwest of Floyd, where he attended rural school and the Floyd high school.

As a child he was reared in the Christian faith and confirmed in the Eden Presbyterian church on Easter Sunday in 1916. He remained a faithful and active member, serving at one time as deacon of this church.

On July 23, 1930, he was united in marriage to Matilda Ann Bortz. They became the parents of six children, Mrs. John (Bonnie) Norby, Francis, Phyllis, Barbara and William at home. One daughter, Carloyn, died at birth.

In 1938 he purchased a farm in Rudd township, where he continued his farming operations until his recent illness. On December 28, 1951, he entered St. Joseph's hospital at New Hampton for a time, and on June 30 he became critically ill, reentering the hospital at New Hampton. He died quietly on Sept. 5, attaining the age of 50 years and six months.

He will be remembered by his friends for his actve part in community affairs. He held the office of Farm Bureau director of Rudd township for several years. On January 29, 1943, he was appointed a trustee in Rudd township and held this office until his death. For the past nine years he had been a director in the Rock Creek Creamery and held the office of president of this organization since 1948.

He is survived by his widow; his five children; one grandchild, Pamela Norby; one brother, Eugene, of Nora Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Sidonia) Philipp and Mrs. Harold (Lisetta) Harden of Floyd; besides a large number of relatives and friends.
