LaVonne E. Bonzer, 81, of Dubuque formerly of Charles City, died Monday, November 29, 2010, at Luther Manor in Dubuque from Complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

A funeral Mass for LaVonne Bonzer will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour before the Mass at the church on Friday.

LaVonne Elizabeth Heit was born June 26, 1929, in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Kleinfehn) Heit. She attended the New Hampton School and graduated from Charles City High School. LaVonne was employed in the offices of the Oliver Corporation and at the ASC Office. In May of 1948, she was united in marriage to William Guthart. He died in 1976. Later in 1984, LaVonne married Clyde Bonzer. He died in 2007. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, where she belonged to St. Anthony’s Circle. LaVonne led an active life, and she especially loved her family and friends. She loved the outdoors, enjoyed many games of golf with friends, fishing at the Mississippi River and gardening, especially growing a variety of beautiful flowers. LaVonne enjoyed the simple life and was most appreciative of God’s creations. She always tried to keep a positive attitude and was skilled at looking for “the silver lining” for herself and for her family members if times were difficult.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Charles) Beckett of Dyersville and grandchildren, Michael (Candace) Beckett and David (Jarin) Beckett and great grandchildren, Avery and Noah Beckett; one son, Thomas (Patti) Guthart of Rio Rancho, N.M. and grandchildren, Christopher and Cara Guthart; step-daughter, Sherry (Tracy) Sweet of Charles City; and grandchildren, Andy (Deena) Sweet and Sally (Keith) Patterson ; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Guthart of Clear Water, Florida; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and three brothers, Roman, Gallus and Virgil Heit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Dubuque, the Alzheimer’s Association or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
