Community Succumbs
Thursday After Illness

Thomas Richard (Dick) Huffstettler, 58, died at his home south of Nora Springs at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, March 17 [1955]. He had been ill for about two months; having undergone surgery at a Mason City hospital on February 4, at which time it was learned that he was suffering with cancer. He returned to his home here Feb. 12 and had received the constant and loving care of his devoted wife.

The Rev. W. F. Ellerbeck, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church, officiated at the rites, which were held in that church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, March 21. Interment was in Park cemetery. Mr. Huffstettler had been a regular attendant in the Evangelical United Brethren church during the 35 years he had lived in the Nora Springs community.

The casket was carried by Ben Vierkant, Henry Vierkant, Guy Arends, Leonard Richardson, Hugh Whitesell and Rodell Timm. Mrs. Leslie Krafft sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "God Will Take Care of You". She was accompanied by Mrs. Floyd Yaggy. The floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Rodell Timm and Mrs. Ridder.

Mr. Huffstettler was born July 28, 1896,at Hartville, Mo., a son of Abe and Ann Pearman Huffstettler. He came to Floyd county about 35 years ago and had operated a farm here since then. He was married to Hilda M. Freese at Webster City on December 21, 1926, and their entire married life had been spent in this community.

The couple had two children, Mrs. Robert (Joretta Jean) Buehler of Mason City and Tommy, at home.

He is survived by his wife; his son and daughter; one grandchild, Janet Jean Buehler; six brothers, Jesse Huffstettler of Wichita, Willis Huffstettler of Hartville, Arden Huffstettler of Yampa, Colorado; Homer Huffstettler of Salinas, Calif., Luther Huffstettler of Wichita; and Alva Huffstettler of Hartville and two sisters, Mrs. S. Z. (Edna) Wildner of Hartville and Mrs. Owen (Auley) Hensley of Wichita. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.
