This Community Dies
After Long IllnessMrs. J. E. Moore, 65, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, July 11, at her home in Nora Springs following an illness of about two years. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, July 13, at the Methodist church, with the Rev. J. Ellis Webb, conducting the rites. Burial was in Spring Grove cemetery, north of Nora Springs.
Mrs. Moore, nee Lucinda Gast, was born on a farm north of Nora Springs, October 6, 1888, a daughter of Henry and Alvina Gast. While she was still an infant, her parents moved to Nora Springs and she had resided here ever since.
She was united in marriage to James Ernest Moore on March 6, 1905. One child was born to them, Winifred May.
She had been active in the Order of the Eastern Star for many years; having been past worthy matron of the local chapter and grand representative at the Grand Lodge. She had also been a member of the Methodist church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Scott E. Willson on March 19, 1949; her father and mother, a brother and sister; and several half brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, J. Ernest Moore of Nora Springs; a grandson, Capt. Scott E. Willson Jr., who is on duty in Germany; two brothers, Ed Gast of Nora Springs and Carl Gast of Charles City, and numerous other relatives and friends.
The Rev. Amedee Fredette, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran church, assisted the Rev. Mr. Webb at the last rites. Mrs. Charles Cumming sang "Going Home' and "The Lord's Prayer". The many beautiful floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Calvin Diegel and Mrs. Clarence Stoner.
The casket was borne by Calvin Diegel, Charles Cumming, Ruben Moos, E.A. Brown, Ray Shanks and Claude Tatum.
