Garry Ray Paulus was born on February 14, 1942, in Rockford, to Earl and Bernice (Sido) Paulus. He received his education from the Rockford Community School District. In 1961 Garry enlisted in the United States Army where he honorably and faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in 1963.

On May 5, 1984, Garry was united in marriage to Jeanie Ackley at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford.

Garry was a very family oriented man. He treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren adored their "Papa" and he in turn adored them. Garry could always be counted on by any of his nieces and nephews to give a helpful piece of advice or to just be there to listen should they want to talk. He was a hero to many and the kind of person many aspired to be. He had an energetic and contagious laugh that could always be picked out in a crowd, and was sure to get everyone around him laughing. Having always been known as a hard worker, Garry held many jobs over the years, most recently working for Hoover's Hatchery in Rudd. Garry loved meeting and joking with friends new and old that he would meet along his route. When he had spare time Garry enjoyed mowing his lawn and keeping everything trimmed and in order. He also enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, Cubs, Packers and Twins play.

Fall was Garry's favorite time of year. He loved to help his friends gather the harvest from the fields and loved spending time in the outdoors. He led a simple but rich life doing the things that he loved.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford.

Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife and the love of his life, Jeanie; children, Sarah (Nick) Wiegmann, Allison, and their children, Taylor and Ava Wiegmann; Kelly (Tim) Nash, Floyd, and their children Brendyn, Rylee and T.J. Nash; and Kyle (Linda) Sneed, Cedar Falls, and their daughter Khloe; siblings, Janice Herman, Bob (Mary) Paulus, Sandra Lossee, Mike Paulus, Rick Paulus, Cindy (Bernie) Goodale and Becky (Terry) Farr; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Dennis; and one sister in infancy, Joann.
