ROCKFORD, IOWA - Marcella Carlson, 86, of Rockford died peacefully at home Wednesday, September 15, 2010.

Funeral services for Marcella will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at the Rockford United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Rockford United Methodist Church.

Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Marcella Marie Cross Drury Carlson was born at home in Floyd County on Feb. 20, 1924, the daughter of Robert and Laura (Strus) Cross. She was raised on the Oliver Experimental Farm in Floyd, where her father was a supervisor during the Great Depression. She graduated from Floyd High School in 1942.

She was united in marriage to Virgil Drury on April 16, 1943. To this union three children were born: Janice, Deanna and Marilyn. She worked and lived at Fort Knox, Ky., during World War II while Virgil served in the Army in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, they returned to the Rockford area where they began their lifetime of farming until Virgil's death in 1967.

Marcella continued to farm for one year and then moved with her children to Rockford. Marcella worked at Oliver White Farm Equipment Co. as a secretary in the foundry until her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Harold Carlson on Nov. 5, 1970. They loved to travel, golf, winter in Arizona, dance, play cards and watch sports. Harold passed away on Oct. 31, 2006.

Marcella was a member of the Eastern Star, Rockford United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer of the Memorial Fund, and was currently employed at the First Citizen's National Bank in Mason City. She was a voracious reader, created ceramics, enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, shopping, cooking, and enjoyed tending to her flowers on her patio. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Marcella is survived by six children: Tom Carlson of St. Ansgar, Janice (Russell) Kornegor of Coldwater, Ohio, Deanna (Jim) Mallo of Rockford, Bruce (Terry) Carlson of Clear Lake, Marilyn (Charles) Johnson of Prole and Sharon (Earl) Gwin of Austin, Minn.; brothers, Rolly Cross of Charles City and Larry (Sharon) Cross of Nora Springs; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends Dale and Berniece Fullerton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother, William Cross, and infant brother, Garland.
