NORA SPRINGS - Dennis James "Shag" Schultz 55, died Wednesday (Sept. 15, 2010) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today (Saturday, Sept. 18) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Edinger of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Denny J. Schultz Memorial in care of Brenda Schultz, 315 N. Seminary Ave., Nora Springs, IA 50458.

Denny "Shag" was born Dec. 30, 1954, in Charles City, the son of Edna Weatherwax. He graduated from Rockford High School in 1973 and then attended North Iowa Area Community College. He began working at Quad States Construction and National Steel. He worked at Federal Express as a carrier for 16 years and currently he was working as a counter salesman at Crescent Electric.

On June 27, 1992, he was united in marriage to Brenda Arndt. To this union a son, Kelby, was born.

Denny was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. His greatest fishing excursions were with his family every year to Lake Kabetogama and Lake City, Minn. Denny was a great family man, a devoted husband, father and friend. Brenda and Kelby were Denny's life and they always came first. Everyone looked forward to his infamous fish fries!

Denny was a man full of life who will be greatly missed by all. Denny was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.

Denny is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Schultz, Nora Springs; son, Kelby Schultz, Nora Springs; their family dog Kabby; father and mother-in-law, Ted and Beverly Arndt, Nora Springs; siblings, Cindi (Bud) Turner, Nora Springs; Karla (Todd) Brown, Charles City; Brenda (Chris) Trytten, Mason City; uncle, Cliff (Linda) Weatherwax, Rock Falls; aunt, Karen Noland, Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Randi (Diane) Arndt, Rock Falls; Pam Meyer, Johnston; and Penny (Rob) Sturges, Mason City; nieces and nephews, Bryan Turner, Jon, Brandi and Teri Hall, Jada, Brady and Shay Trytten, Chloe and Jennifer Arndt, Morgan Meyer, Parker and Stone Sturges; two great-nieces, Kendall Turner and Jacy Hall, along with several other relatives and many friends.

Denny is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Hartwell; grandparents, Mel and Ruby Weatherwax; and his special friend, Charlie Ritter.
