CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Aloysius W. "Al" Schmitt, 70, 2652 Harvey St., died Wednesday (July 1, 1998) at his home.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Highway 18 and Clark St., Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, pastor of Immaculate Conception, and Al's brother, Father Ervin Schmitt, pastor of Tri Parish Community, Pueblo, Colo., concelebrating the mass. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., with a parish scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary service led by the Knights of Columbus Charles City Council No. 1409. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Aloysius William "Al" Schmitt was born Dec. 31, 1927, in rural Rockford.

Living family members include seven children: Connie Schaaf of West Branch, Mich., Michael Schmitt of Broomfield, Colo., Ruth Hart of Coralville, Thomas Schmitt of Rose City Mich., Laurie Turgeon of Broomfield, Colo., Peggy Schmitt of Minneapolis, Minn., and John Schmitt of Eagan, Minn.; three brothers, Bill Schmitt of Charles City, Vince Schmitt of Rockwell, and Father Ervin Schmitt of Pueblo, Colo.; and two sisters, Clara Schoenauer of Guttenburg, and Evelyn Hosch of Pensacola, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City Satellite.
