DOUGHERTY — Funeral services for Esther A. Shultz, 89, of Marble Rock, formerly of rural Dougherty, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene, with a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Esther Augusta Uker was born Jan. 12, 1909, on the Uker Homestead four miles east of Dougherty, a daughter of George Leo and Wilhelmina Albertina (Stabenow) Uker, and died Tuesday (Oct. 27, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

She was baptized Feb. 28, 1909, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene and received her education in the rural Scott Township Schools. She attended the Westside School in Greene and later the High School there. She was confirmed a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene on March 25, 1923.

On July 2, 1926, she was united in marriage to Galen Glen Shultz at the Lutheran Parsonage in Independence, Iowa. They made their home on the Uker homestead for over 50 years. Mr. Shultz died on Nov. 19, 1980. She later moved to the Friendship Acres apartments in Marble Rock were she lived for seven years, before entering the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Esther will be remembered for her great love for her family and friends. Her interests included gardening, all aspects of farming, playing cards and going out to eat.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Lois Adams, of Marble Rock; her two sons, Galen Jr. "Bud" and his wife, LaVonne Shultz, of Greene, and Donald Shultz, of Mason City; son-in-law, Joe Neal, of Greene; 11 grandchildren, Carolyn Goodsell, Kathy Herman, Bonita Neal, Thomas Neal, Margaret Nash, Debra Warren, Amber Bushbaum, Reid Adams, Darla Parker, Julia Towsley, and David Shultz; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Delhia Lynch, of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Donna Neal on April 19, 1998; one grandson, Douglas Shultz; two great-grandsons, Benjamin Bushbaum, Brandon Glen Neal; parents; and one sister, Ida Darby.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Esther A. Shultz Memorial Fund in care of the family.
