RUDD, IOWA — Richard H. Leaman, 74, a resident of 703 Floyd St., Rudd, died Wednesday morning (Feb. 25, 1998) at his home after a short illness with cancer.

Funeral services for Richard Leaman will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rudd United Methodist Church, Rudd, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers and the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post #449 of Nora Springs.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Richard Hoger Leaman was born June 18, 1923, at Charles City, the son of Earle and Luella (Hoger) Leaman. He was sworn into the Navy in January of 1941.

He and June Stewart were married on July 8, 1945, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.

After their marriage they lived in Norfolk, Va., and in Boston, Mass., until his discharge from the Navy. They later lived in the Floyd and Rudd area. Richard was retired in 1983 from the Armour Company after 35 years.

Richard was an active member of the Rudd United Methodist Church, the U.S.S. Menifee Organization and the U.S.S. William R. Rush Organization. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #449 of Nora Springs, the V.F.W. Post #733 of Mason City, the U.S.S. Helena Organization, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Organization and was president of the Iowa Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Organization for two years.

Richard's hobbies included traveling, camping, woodworking, gardening and birdwatching. He loved being around his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Living family members included his wife, June, of Rudd; two sons, Gerald "Jerry" Leaman and his wife, Linda, of Clear Lake and Richard "Rick" Leaman and his wife, Diane, of Rudd; five daughters, Gloria Darter, of Estacada, Ore., Judy Garl and her husband, Jerry, of Nora Springs, Nancy Walker and her husband, Bill, of Clear Lake, Rita Fuller and her husband, Dennis, of Bismarck, N.D., Peggy Hanson and her husband, Joel, of Osage; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers: a twin brother, Robert Leaman, of Mason City, Dale Leaman, of Garrison, Minn., and Virgil Leaman, of Charles City; two sisters, Allene Corbin and her husband, Lamoine, of Minneapolis, Minn., and June Wentworth and her husband, Dr. L.S., of Rochester, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Leaman, of Rochester, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Carlyle Leaman.

Richard will be sadly missed by his family and remembered for the wonderful, loving person he was.
