CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Phoebe M. Lacour, 82, of Charles City died Tuesday morning (Aug. 17, 2010) at the 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Phoebe Lacour will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Floyd Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City. Visitation will continue an hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Phoebe May Goddard was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Walter and Josephine (Gregory) Goddard. She graduated from the Floyd High School. Phoebe was employed as a telephone operator and at J.C. Penny.

On Nov. 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Lacour at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Phoebe took care of the farms bookkeeping while helping Gilbert on the farm. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she was active in the WSCS Circle, choir, taught Sunday school and played the church organ.

Her interests included flower gardening, painting, crossword puzzles, sewing, crocheting, baking, canning, birds, fishing, traveling and playing the piano and accordion. Phoebe was always willing to help others and sponsored many children through World Vision.

Living family members include her husband, Gilbert Lacour of Charles City; five children, Larry (Claudia) Lacour of Osage, Carol Ross of Orchard, David (Su Yon) Lacour of Osage, Steven (Connie) Lacour of Charles City and Wendy (Roy) Hockenson of Charles City; nine grandchildren, Chad, Christian, Ryan, Cory, Adam, Daniel, Cliff, Andrew and Heidi; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene Gauger of St. Ansgar and Patricia Decklever, of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
