NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Julius Bethke, 80, of Nora Springs, died Thursday (Nov. 16, 2000) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Center in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel and one hour before services on Monday at the funeral home.

NORA SPRINGS - Julius Bethke Jr., 80, died Thursday (Nov. 16, 2000) at Veterans Hospital, Des Moines.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Jana Swenson of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and will resume one hour before the service Monday.

Memorials may be directed to the Julius Bethke Memorial Fund.

Julius was born Feb. 16, 1920, in Grand Island, Neb., the son of Julius Sr. and Mildred (Varney) Bethke.

He was united in marriage to Helen Sievers in August 1941 in Grand Island, Neb. Julius worked at the power plant in Grand Island until 1960. The couple then moved to Manly, where Julius ran a repair shop. They later moved to Blair, Neb., where Julius was a maintenance worker for the state. He retired in the early 1980s and the couple moved to Nora Springs.

Julius' hobbies included working on cars and going for drives in his cars. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly for many years.

Julius is survived by his wife, Helen, of Nora Springs; seven children, Charles Bethke and his wife, Barb, of Dora, Ala., Howard Bethke and his wife, Sharon, of Birmingham, Ala., Don Bethke and his wife, Carolyn, of Lake Mills, Terry Bethke of Nora Springs, Joan Esch and her husband, Greg, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dorothy Turk and her husband, John, of Mason City, and Judy Marshesault and her husband, Jim, of Prior Lake, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two children.
