Elemo Summer

Funeral services for Elemo A. Summer of Charles City, formerly of McIntire, were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Riceville with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elemo, 93, died Friday, July 14, 2000 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Elemo Ambrose Summer was born April 4, 1907 in McIntire, the son of Anton and Carrie (Hick) Summer. He attended school in McIntire and graduated from McIntire High School. He then attended Creighton University, but decided to return to McIntire and become a dairyman. For many years, Elemo milked the cows, bottled milk and delivered it door to door.

On November 26, 1929, Elemo married Christine Marie Hendrickson in Riceville. They made their home in McIntire.

Elemo livied in McIntire for almost 80 years and served as mayor for many years.

He is survived by four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Elemo was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; one son, Wayne; his parents; one brother, Alfred; and six sisters, Lena, Rena, Anna, Ruby, Lila and Carol.
