Alta Mae Sutton

NORA SPRINGS — Alta Mae Sutton, 92, of 316 Gaylord St., died Sunday (Dec. 27, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Plymouth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers and the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Alta Mae Sutton was born June 25, 1906, in Plymouth, daughter of Charles and Lora Obrecht Molsberry. She graduated from Plymouth schools in 1925 and then worked for Frank Peshak Grocery Store prior to her marriage to Ervin Earl Sutton on Dec. 25, 1927.

They farmed near Plymouth nearly 15 years then moved north of Nora Springs and farmed until Ervin's death in 1964. Alta moved to her current home in February of 1965.

She was a lifelong member of Plymouth United Methodist Church. She was active in the WCTU, Farmers Wives and Daughters, Gray Ladies, Sunshine Circle, the Red Cross, and was an Avon Rep for seven years.

Survivors include six children, Earl Sutton and his wife, Carol, of Rudd; William Clayton Sutton, of Nora Springs; Janet Peterson, of Nora Springs; Lora Tourtellott and her husband, Jerald, of Osage; Clinton Sutton and his wife, Karen, of Hastings, Minn.; and Linda Kohler and her husband, Mike, of Mason City; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Eva Harmon, of Plymouth; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Bonnie Crystal Sutton; a daughter, Carrol Bernice; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sons-in-law.
