Carl L. Stafford, 76, of Charles City, died Saturday evening, June 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Carl Stafford will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor David Werges of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, with Military Honors by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Carl Leo Stafford was born April 8, 1934, in Bremer County, the son of Ralph H. and Clara E. (Hundley) Stafford. He attended school in Waverly. In 1952, Carl served in the United States Navy. On May 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to Maxine Sailer at Waverly. He was employed at grocery stores in Waverly and Clear Lake, Farmland, City of Iowa Falls, the railroad and John Deere. Carl was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. His interests included singing; country music; hymns; and sports, especially football and basketball.

Living family members include his wife, Maxine Stafford of Charles City, brother, Harold Stafford of Waverly; sister, Margurite (Milton) Gade of Grand Island, Nebr.; brother-in-law, Alfred Ohlendorf of Waverly; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene Ohlendorf; two nieces, Betty Ohlendorf and Kimberly Tripp; and one great nephew, Jerry Shipp.
