Christina “Chris” L. Johnson, 61, of Charles City, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the University Hospital and Clinic in Iowa City.

A funeral Mass for Chris Johnson will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Christina Louise Emerson Johnson was born July 24, 1948, the daughter of John and Venette (Stevens) Emerson. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1966. On November 26, 1966, she was united in marriage to Gene Johnson at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Over the years Chris worked as a floral designer at Cedar Valley Florist, Bluhm’s Florist, Pick-A-Posy and Kelly Mall Florist. She will always be remembered for her welcoming smile and gracious manner. Chris enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in her garden. Family was always very important to Chris and she looked forward to sharing her life with them.

Living family members include her husband, Gene Johnson of Charles City; four children, Gina Meyer of Phoenix, Ariz., Lon Johnson and special friend Lori Craighton of Thornton, Dawne (Brad) Bilharz and Jackie Johnson both of Charles City; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, John (Sandy) Emerson, Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Donna) Emerson of Urbandale, Mike (Susan) Emerson of Sioux Center; and three sisters, MerryLee (Lester) Johnson and Maggie (Norm) Benson and Pat Clappier and special friend Joe all of Rochester, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother in infancy, Robert Emerson and a sister, Kathy Boggess.
