NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Garwin G. "Dyke" Ward, 86, of Lot 11, Ponderosa Court, Nora Springs, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

GARWIN G. "DYKE" WARD

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Garwin G. "Dyke" Ward, 86, of Lot 11, Ponderosa Court, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2000) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Garwin G. Ward was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Ellsworth, the son of Harvey and Ethel Mae (Allen) Ward. He married Mary Doris McMinimen on May 31, 1969, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.

Dyke attended school at Burchinal. He farmed with his father and later moved to California and worked as a mechanic at a Dodge dealership. He returned to Mason City in 1960, driving truck for Armours and then working as a mechanic at Sedars until retiring. He then continued to work at as a parking attendant for the police department.

Dyke loved visiting with family and his friends and especially with his best friend, Doris. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Ward, Nora Springs; one son, Garvin Ward and his wife, Jan, Mason City; a daughter, Judy Calvert and her husband, Ron, Nora Springs; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Ward, Wichita Falls, Texas; three sisters, Peggy Odom, Hannah Sandy and Bonnie May, all of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

Dyke was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Florence Austin, Arleigh Logan and Thelma Ryan; four brothers, Pat, Bill, Robert and Buck Ward; and two brothers and one sister in infancy.
