NORA SPRINGS - Mary Emma Waters, 100, of Nora Springs, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian Church in Nora Springs, with the Rev. Paul Boostrom officiating. Burial will be in Rock Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 Monday until service time at the church. Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Nora Springs Care Center.

Mary Waters was born Feb. 13, 1899, in Pine Island, Minn., the daughter of Herman and Lena (Bratzke) Stiller.

She was united in marriage to Frank Waters on Aug. 5, 1915, in Luck, Wis. They moved to the Nora Springs area shortly thereafter to farm, which they did until retirement in 1966. She was a lifelong homemaker who enjoyed her family and babysitting her grandchildren. She took care of a large garden of flowers and plants and canned her own fruits and vegetables. She was especially known for her baking skills, including donuts, bread and noodles. She was a member of the Christian Church in Nora Springs for more than 75 years, one of their oldest members. She has lived the past several years at the Nora Springs Care Center, where she always looked forward to her birthday parties with family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Junior Waters and his wife, Lorrie, of Plymouth, and Charlie Waters and his wife, Ruth, of Nora Springs; one daughter, Cora Hibner and her husband, Jim, of Ames; one daughter-in-law, Gladys Waters of Rockford; one sister-in-law, Esther Stiller of Nora Springs; 16 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Clayton and Richard Waters; one brother, August (Bob) Stiller; two sisters, Myrtle Hanson and Elma McNeir; two daughter-in-law, Donna Waters and Mary Elizabeth Waters; one granddaughter, Shari Hibner; and two great grandsons, Travis Waters and an infant boy.
