CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Merna L. Hoeft, 73, of Charles City died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at her home.

Funeral services for Merna Hoeft will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City, with Pastor David Werges of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Hauser Funeral Home, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Merna Lou Obermeier Hoeft was born Sept. 14, 1936, at Charles City, the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Hurst) Obermeier. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1955.

On June 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Hoeft at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Over the years Merna worked as a nurse's aide at the Floyd County Medical Center, retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Merna enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball and having her friends at the "round table" where they enjoyed coffee and conversation together.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, watching her children and grandchildren participate in various sports.

Living family members include her husband, Robert Hoeft, of Charles City; three children, Debra (Michael) Rahm of Medina, Minn., Cindy Pralle and Mike (Rhonda) Hoeft, both of Charles City; eight grandchildren, Libby (Eric) Harris, Nate (Joy) Severin, Casey (Christina) Eaves, Kristen (Sean) Stowe, Corey and Kallie Hoeft and Elizabeth and Alexander Rahm; six great-grandchildren, Abigail and Blake Harris, Alexa Severin, Alexis and Aliah Eaves and Jackson Stowe; and a twin brother, Merlin (Mary) Obermeier, of Clarksville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Hayden Stowe; a brother, Lavern Obermeier; and a sister, Leona Lore.
