WAYNE I. MILHOUS

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Wayne I. Milhous, 89, of rural Nora Springs, died Saturday (May 8, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. NE, Mason City, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with flag folding and taps by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Wednesday.

Wayne Isaac Milhous was born December 8, 1909, at Baird, the son of Lewis C. And Beulah (Burrhus) Milhous. He attended schools in Ventura and later attended Coyne Electrical Trade School in Chicago. Later Wayne served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged Oct. 21, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minn.

On September 24, 1939, he married Laura Tabbert in Austin, Minnesota.

Wayne was a lifelong farmer and also enjoyed flower-gardening. He was an independent person and very proud of the fact, as well as being good-hearted and extremely patient. Wayne loved to travel to see his family, especially if he was driving a new car. He also liked to go on fishing trips to Canada and watch his favorite sport - baseball. Other favorite pastimes were playing pinochle and canasta.

He was a Farm Bureau member.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Milhous and his wife, Carol, Bolingbrook, Illinois; his daughter, Carolyn Bethke and her husband, Don, Northwood; grandchildren, Michelle Garland and her husband, Roger, Columbus, Ohio, Michael Mark Milhous, Bolingbrook, Illinois, Meggan Marie Milhous, Lisle, Illinois, Wayne Julius Bethke and Becky Ann Bethke, both of Northwood; two sisters, Rachel Hemmings, Benton Harbor, Mich., and Betty Woods, Arizona; one brother, Max Milhous (who came to think of Wayne as a father rather than a brother because their parents were gone at a young age) and his wife, Lucille, Ventura; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Audrey and Peggy; and an infant brother.
