Douglas P. Ritter “Critter,” age 54, of Greene, Iowa, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

A funeral Mass for Doug Ritter will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Walter Brunkan will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Visitation will continue an hour before the Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Douglas Paul Ritter was born December 9, 1955, at Charles City, the son of Donald P. and LaVonne M. (Buttjer) Ritter. In 1974, he graduated from the Greene High School. He was employed at White Farm Equipment Company in Charles City and Bantam Shield in Waverly. Doug also did general construction and farm labor for many neighbors. He was a member of NUGGETS Motorcycle Club of North Iowa. His interests included playing in foosball tournaments, antique motorcycles and horses.

Living family members include his daughter, Daylene Ritter of Greene; brother, Donald Ritter II of Newnan, Ga.; two sisters, Diane Ritter of Greene and Darla Ritter of Charles City; two nieces, Bethany Wihlm of Blairsburg and Megan Wihlm of Webster City; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a brotherhood of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Helen and Thole Buttjer; and paternal grandparents, Marcella Ritter and Leo and Gladys Ritter.
