NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Harold Teeple, 97, died on March 22, 2010, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Harold Guy Teeple was born on Aug. 6, 1912, in Rockford to Guy and Amelia (Kent) Teeple. Until the eighth grade Harold would walk 1½ miles to a one-room schoolhouse near his family's farm outside Rockford. For the first two years of high school he rode a horse 5 ½ miles into Rockford and then drove a car until his graduation in 1930. When the weather was bad he would ride in a horse drawn surrey or in a sleigh.
Following his high school graduation, Harold furthered his education at Iowa State University. He majored in poultry husbandry and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. To pay for his college education he began raising turkeys in 1931.
On December 24, 1937, Harold was united in marriage to Lucille Gladys Chesnut and to this union four daughters were born. Harold and Lucille began operating the Teeple Hatchery and feed store in Nora Springs in 1938. They continued to raise turkeys on their farm south of Nora Springs. The farm equipment auction was held in 1999 but Harold continued with his farm operations until the day he died. He was very proud of the fact that two of his family farms are century farms.
Harold's pastimes included his love of fishing with his family, reading, sports and traveling in his motor home. He loved supporting the local high school teams. He was proudly honored with an autographed team baseball for never missing a game. He rode his scooter to the games in rain or shine.
Harold was also a member of many civic organizations; 15 years on the Nora Springs-Rock Falls School Board, and numerous years on the Kiwanis Club and for a period, he served as president of both. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs.
Those grateful in sharing Harold's life are his daughters, Karen (John) Reuter, Scottsdale, Ariz., Bonnie (John) Hausner, Chatham, Mass., Janice (Bill) Hoveland, Sarona, Wis., and Linda (Bruce) Bell, Overland Park, Kan. His nine grandchildren, Kevin, Jeff, Allyn, Robert, Amy, Shelly, Jason, Ryan and Chris; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
